Two Killed In Crash With Tanker Truck

Two men were killed and two others seriously injured Tuesday, January 2 when their pick-up truck was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Centerpoint Road and the west access road of I-35 in San Marcos.

San Marcos Police have withheld the names of the victims pending the notification of next of kin.

According to Commander Warren Zerr,  the preliminary investigation showed that the four men in an extended cab Ford pick-up were traveling west on Centerpoint Road at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle ran a red light at the west access road.

The pick-up was struck by a tanker truck traveling southbound on the frontage road. The driver of the pick-up was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger died at Central Texas Medical Center.

Two other passengers were transported to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with life-threatening injuries, one by helicopter and the second by ambulance.

The driver of the tanker truck was taken to Central Texas Medical Center as a precaution and did not appear to be injured.
